Here in the City of Prescott and the Town of Prescott Valley, we are facing a $200 million dollar Big Chino pipeline project that will draw water from the Big Chino Aquifer, located at the headwaters of the Verde River, and supply Prescott and Prescott Valley with an alternative water supply. This has been proposed as an ‘alternative water supply’ due to plans for future development in annexation areas and poor water use planning. Current City of Prescott taxpayers will pay for the cost of this pipeline now and in the future. The Upper Verde Watershed, the Aquifer’s water source, hangs in the balance. Native fish species are being impacted, and local biological diversity will face disruption. Without a mitigation plan, the river will most certainly begin to dry up, and taxpayers will bear the costs of a hasty and irresponsible project. Rainwater Harvesting can and will go a long way in providing a point-of-source production alternative water supply for the City of Prescott and will reduce the need to build the Big Chino Pipeline. Please visit the CWAG website for detailed information on how this proposed project will affect our future.
